Spring for high school students always means summer is around the corner but right now it is Prom season.

A lot of young girls do not have the money or means to purchase an amazing dress for their school dance. Many times those that can afford these dresses only wear them once and they stay in a chest or closet for years to come simply untouched after the night out. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to put that dress to good use and let someone else enjoy wearing it and feeling special one night just as you did possibly the year prior or for winter formal?

For the month of April we are going to collect homecoming, winter formal and prom dresses for young ladies to use for their Prom this year. For those of you that have dresses and accessories from previous dances here is what we can use to help dress these girls right:

  1. Formal dresses long or short of any color (just in good condition and clean please)
  2. Jewelry that can be used to go with these dresses
  3. Handbags and clutches that are paired with formal dresses

How to do this month’s challenge:

  1. Send out emails or have Mom or Dad send emails to their friends with kids who are either in high school or college who might have dresses that will no longer be used as well as items #2 and #3.
  2. Send notes to neighbors asking for these donations
  3. Know a babysitter or someone involved in National Charity League that might have formal dresses? Send them a note and ask if they can part with any of their dresses for a cause.
  4. Collect by April 23rd
  5. Contact ISP locally for drop off location of collection or contact number below
  6. If outside of Orange County, google where to donate prom dresses and by what date in your area.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Do you think everyone should have the chance to go to a formal dance in a dress they like?
  2. How do you think it will make that girl feel that night dressed up in a dress she could not afford if she bought it from the store last week?
  3. Do you think this would help her confidence? Why?
  4. How does it make you feel asking others to donate something special to them for a cause special to you?
