The Infinite Smile Project’s Monthly Challenge is a smaller, service deed that is easily done with one person and a small amount of funds. It is a small act of kindness that can make a huge impact. Challenges are meant to be done by one individual, who wants to make a difference, or done by parents with their children, as a family service project to teach the children the value of helping others and giving back.

Our challenge for September and October 2014 is: Blessing Bags for the Homeless.

What are ‘Blessing Bags’?

‘Blessing Bags’ are large quart-size zip-lock bags filled with items for the homeless. They are intended to be kept in your car so they can be easily given to the homeless or someone in need when you come across them. As some people prefer not to give money, this is a great alternative to give someone something they need and can use.

Here is the best way to make blessing bags:

Purchase a box of quart-size zip lock bags
Purchase items that will fit inside the zip lock such as bottled water, travel size toiletries and personal care items, and food
Size up what will fit into your bag with a good mix of personal hygiene products and packaged foods
Make approximately 6-10 bags and place into a box for your car.
Some like to leave a kind note or label but blank bags are good as well.

Below is a list of recommended items for the Blessing Bags:

  • Travel size shampoo/conditioner
  • Granola bars
  • Travel size soap, deodorant, toothbrush, paste
